Historical Length Converter
Ancient length units are the measuring system behind classical architecture. Conservation work, archaeological survey and architectural history all need these measures expressed in metres and feet, and modern lengths expressed back in ancient units.
Units covered
Roman units cover the pes (foot), cubitum (cubit), passus (pace) and mille passus (the thousand paces that gave us the mile). Greek work uses the pous. Egyptian measures include the royal cubit, or meh. Each is converted against its accepted modern metric equivalent, alongside the full set of modern length units.

These values are conventions, not exact definitions
Ancient units varied by region, period and even by building. The factors used here follow the widely cited standard values, such as a Roman pes of about 0.2957 m, but a measured survey of a specific structure may legitimately produce a slightly different local foot.
Whole-number tests are the useful application
The practical reason to convert is to test a hypothesis: a nave that measures 29.57 m is very likely 100 Roman feet. Convert the measured dimension, then look for round numbers rather than treating the converted value as a precise result.
